We all know that Milwaukee is THE city of summer Excitement – this weekend is no exception. you’re going to have to make some tough decisions, as a couple of these awesome events are overlapping like gravy on potatoes.
Speaking of potatoes - if you’re looking to attend the largest Irish celebration in the world, look no further, Milwaukee has you covered. Starting tonight and going through Sunday, Irish Fest will let you experience everything from a 5k run (which benefits arthritis research) to a Jameson tasting lounge - not to mention the plethora of food choices (yes, if you were wondering you will find your favorite starch filled vegetable in large amounts), a red hair and freckles contest, a bread baking competition, and even an area to play with traditional Irish dog breeds. I almost forgot about the live music selection! Bands like the Red Hot Chilli Pipers (no, not the Red Hot Chili Peppers, sadly) will be bringing their signature “bagrock” sound to the stage, as well as the group Gaelic Storm amongst other musical acts! There are some awesome promotions for discounted or free entry to the festival here. Some would say that this event is even on par with Summerfest in terms of scale and energy. So grab your bagpipes, maybe don some green and gold (both to rep the Irish, and of course our beloved Pack), and make your way down to the grounds in these next few days!
You checked out Irish fest, and it left you a fiend for more, but wanting something a wee bit different? Fear not, Zoo a la Carte has got you covered. In its 32nd year of operation, this event boasts food from 27 different vendors – so come and feast with the beasts! I’d be lion (see what I did there?) if I didn’t say that there’s going to be some great live music happening at the zoo this weekend. National artists like Los Lobos, Soul Asylum, The Spinners, and In Black and White will all be roaring from their respective stages. Wait no longer - call up some friends, go stretch your necks at the Giraffe Village Wine tent, and party with some exotic animals this weekend.
Belay your way over to party at Adventure Rock MKE this Friday! Located on Milwaukee’s East side, this new installation rocks. This facility has an awesome new auto-belaying system, which means you don’t even need a partner to climb, although you are bound to meet someone new at this great venue. Beginners are totally welcome! After climbing, everyone is welcome to head out to the park and play some games with newly acquired friends. Adventure Rock doesn’t skimp on bringing the excitement and intensity, and since it’s an indoor wall, there isn’t even a need for you to bring your bivouac. Happy climbing, and belay-on!
MAM After Dark has been a series of events put on by the Milwaukee Art Museum, and they’ve been awesome. This Friday bring your friends to Quiet Clubbing 2.0, a multi-faceted silent disco event. Snag a brew or some vino from the bar (provided by Point Brewing Co. and Door Peninsula Winery) and bust a move with Bizzon and Why B at the silent disco, make some beautiful screen prints (an event at the MAM wouldn’t be complete without some creativity) with local artist Tyanna Buie, or just have fun socializing and exploring with friends. If you don’t get enough dancing by the time the event is over, there will be an after party at Dick’s on Milwaukee Street. What are you waiting for? Slip on your dancing shoes and boogie down to the lakefront Friday.
Lastly don’t forget about the Third Ward sidewalk sale this weekend! Starting Saturday at 10 am businesses from all over the ward will be providing you with great deals on sweet loot. Don’t miss out on these deals!
Alas that’s all I have for you this week, and I know you’ll make a good decision wherever you choose to go. Let us know which events you’re planning on hitting up in the next few days!
