Summer is like a slip-n-slide. You spend a while setting it up, make lemonade, and invite your friends over to cool off. It seems like the perfect day, one that will never end. But before you know it, it’s dark out, and you’re wondering where that beautiful afternoon even went.
Summer tends to evoke the same feeling. It’s gone in a flash. This is all the more reason to enjoy it, and take advantage of some really cool opportunities taking place in Milwaukee over this next week.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is a huge staple of our great city. Thanks to the good folks at Meijer, the first Friday of every month is completely free for admission. Don’t pass it up this month. Plus, we all know you’ve been wanting to check out those Warhol prints for quite some time, this is your chance. If it just so happens that your hunger for art hasn’t been satiated yet, fret not – the 30th Annual Firefly Art Fair is happening in Wauwatosa this weekend August 6th-7th (Bonus points for those who already knew that Wauwatosa means firefly in Potawatomi). Put on by the Wauwatosa Historical Society, this event is an abundance of artful stimulation. Featuring a plethora of artists, homemade treats and drinks, and live music, you will most definitely find satisfaction while strolling through Kneeland-Walker House & Gardens.
The Historic Third Ward is a such a captivating area in Milwaukee. Home to many great businesses, including us at g.moxie, this fashion and arts district has a few that stand out - one of the most known being the Milwaukee Public Market. Every Saturday this summer they hold an Outdoor Urban Market on their property from 10 AM-3 PM. Here you can find your fresh produce needs, as well as some very well-known artists from the Milwaukee area.
Do you like wine? If not, you’re probably lying. This Saturday, August 6th, from 4-6 PM, Bacchus will be hosting another installment of their Summer Sommelier series – “Drink Pink: Rose Wine and What It’s All About”. It’s a $30.00 cost for the class, light hors d’oeuvres, and the sampling of three different wines. Plus, if you stay for dinner, you get 10% off your bill. To all you wine lovers, you won’t want to miss this.
On Sunday mornings, Clear Water Outdoor holds a social kayak paddle on the Milwaukee river. It’s $10 for members, and $25 for non-members, but you are guaranteed to enjoy it as you hear stories from the guides about the area you’re paddling through and chat up fellow kayakers. A great way to go out and experience an urban landscape from a different perspective.
If you’re looking for some more live music in the next week, take a gander over to River Rhythms in Pere Marquette Park this coming Wednesday, August 10. The Liam Ford Group will be rocking the stage, go get your groove on.
Lastly, State Fair starts today! Can’t forget those cream puffs.
Hoping for a wonderful week for all of you. We can't wait to hear which of these events you check out!
