It’s been a long hiatus, but we’re back to bring you some of Milwaukee’s weekly events that you won’t want to miss. There’s a lot going on this weekend, and if the rain and fall-like temperatures we’ve been experiencing stay away, it should be one for the record books.
It’s time to get your cream puff on and head to the Wisconsin State Fair (unless you already have, there are only 4 more days to attend)! Take a ride on the Wonderfair Wheel, eat your heart out (something on a stick is a must), visit the farm animals, do some shopping in the Exposition Center, and most of all, just enjoy celebrating Wisconsin with other likeminded fairgoers. Whether young or old, the fair is a great place to make life-long memories, so make sure to attend with your loved ones and enjoy a good ol’ 50 cent cup of flavored milk in our honor.
Take care of the furry friends in your life by bringing them to the Community Pet Clinic for low-cost services to keep them healthy! They will be offering $5 distemper and rabies shots, as well as microchipping for only $20. This event is hosted by Friends of MADACC, who want to make sure those tails keep on wagging. The event goes on rain or shine, and there will be some refreshments for those who attend.
Gift to the Community: Free admission at Milwaukee Public Museum | August 12 | Milwaukee Public Museum
There is only one place in they city where you can look at dinosaur bones, hope to catch a butterfly in your hand, and wander the streets of old Milwaukee – yup, the Milwaukee Public Museum. Grab the family and head on over because the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is offering FREE admission for everyone this Saturday. There will be all sorts of bonus fun on Saturday as well, including free shows at the Dome Theater, a live bug experience, and crafts for the kids. They are even offering a special event to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse! A fun day for the family awaits!
Head to Walker’s Point to support local arts education at Drink Wisconsinbly Pub. The free event will connect the city’s art, music and culture – a whole day of celebrating Milwaukee! Those in attendance are asked to donate art supplies that will be gifted to Arts at Large, a non-profit based in Walker’s Point (monetary donations will also be accepted). Grab a beer, a bite to eat from a food truck, and listen to some great live music, all while supporting Milwaukee’s art scene.
If you’ve never had the chance to try a taste of this eight-tentacle creature, here’s your opportunity. Hotel Madrid’s patio will be transformed into a festival featuring octopus (and they claim some moctopus) tapas from local vendors. Black Sheep MKE, Wolf Peach, Goodkind, MOVIDA, Yokohama MKE and Gibraltar MKE will be on hand serving up food. This Spanish tradition, honoring the use of octopus as food, will has made its way to Milwaukee – adding to the 60,000 pounds of octopus prepared each year globally. $15 will get you an advanced ticket, but entrance will cost you $20 at the door. You will receive four tapas tickets, enough to try a wide variety of octopus themed dishes.
Enjoy the weekend with these fun events!
