The weather has been confusing, the Packers’ season is in full swing, and apple cider drinks keep popping up everywhere. Seems like the typical fall in Wisconsin to us! Anyway, let’s skip the small talk – here’s some fun to keep you occupied (and a little bit spooked) until Halloween is here.
Angst, Horror, and Fun / Oct 21 / 6:30 PM / Milwaukee Art Museum
The Milwaukee Art Museum is an integral part of this city’s dynamic culture. This week, Present Music brings you “Angst, Horror, and Fun”, an exploration of cinematic and musical terror through 1920’s German cinema. A very unique exhibition and experience, it is described as a musical haunted house of sound and screen. Learn how music has played an immersive role in cinema, while listening to some live and reimagined scores from horror, fantasy and murder mystery films. The program also includes a showing of the classic 1922 vampire horror film, “Nosferatu.”
Part of the performance will be taking place in the upper level where you’ll be able to experience atmospheric solos and duos surrounded by the museum’s collection of German Expressionist art. Event goers will find a cash bar, tickets range from $15-$35, and complimentary dessert at the end of the night. Who could ask for more (except maybe a clove of garlic or two)?
Gallery Night & Dat / Oct 21 & 22 / Third Ward Locations
Need to do some early Christmas shopping? The Historic Third Ward is hosting Milwaukee’s premier art event this weekend. Running for 29 years, this expansive showcase of talent is like nothing you’ve witnessed before. With over 50 participating locations hosting galleries of all types, there is something for everyone. You’ll find everything from paintings, photography, jewelry, specialized installations, interactive art projects, food, live music, and more. Make your way around the Ward via the free shuttle, or buy a ticket for the NEWaukee bus, which includes drinks and a mobile gallery. This is a showcase of talent that will have something to please everyone. Also, in partnership with the event, the Harley-Davidson museum will be free on Friday from 5-9PM, don’t miss out!
Fall Artisan Market in the Yard / Oct 21 & 22 / 5-9 PM & 10-4 PM / Iron Horse
Just in case you didn’t think that Gallery Night & Day was enough, we’ve found you a little something extra. The first annual Fall Artisan Market in the Yard will be taking place this Friday and Saturday at the Iron Horse Hotel! You’ll be able to find local handmade goods and food from many talented Milwaukee area artists – here is a list to name a few:

Halloween Spooktacular / Oct 21&22 / 6-9 PM & 9 AM-9 PM / Milwaukee County Zoo
BOO!
Alright, so we’re not as frightening as we’d like to be, but the Milwaukee County Zoo will definitely fill that gap this weekend! Sponsored by Sendik’s, this Halloween haven is the perfect mix of spooky and family fun! There is so much to watch and do. You can take the kids through a winding and confusing haystack maze, listen to the live music of Razzmatazz, and of course trick-or-treat along the way! If you’re brave enough, hop aboard the Raven’s Rail train as you chug through the wooded railway. Stay vigilant and keep your eye out for pumpkin critters during the ride!
Seeing as it’s a spooktacular event, it’s only fitting that you dress up as your favorite character, animal, monster, or ghost. While disguised, check out your favorite animals as they play with pumpkins filled with their favorite treats, and you won’t want to miss seeing the elephants squash some pumpkins on Saturday at 1PM! Zookeepers will be holding special talks about your favorite winged mammals (aka bats) throughout the weekend as well! There will be a costume parade Saturday at 2PM, and afterwards a costume contest will be held. The winner will receive the awesome prize of a behind the scenes zoo tour! Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for juniors, and free for kids under two years old. Gather up the family and head to the zoo this weekend!
Enchanted Forest / Oct 22 / 5:30-7:30 PM / Urban Ecology Center
The Urban Ecology Center is a beautiful area hidden right in the heart of Milwaukee’s everyday hustle and bustle. If you want to get away from the city, without actually leaving, this is the place to go. Throughout the year, the UEC puts on great community events to encourage people to learn more about nature and experience it firsthand. This Saturday night, head to Riverside Park for a hike through an Enchanted Forest! Costumes are encouraged, friends and family are invited, and fun is a must. Follow your guide along a candle lit path, encountering strange and exciting characters during your trek. After the hike, don’t forget to stop inside to play games, make crafts, and enjoy a delicious cup of hot apple cider. Tickets are available and limited for this event, so don’t slack and buy yours today!
The Great Catsby - Paws & Claws Gala / Oct 22 / 5:30 PM / Pfister Hotel / Arthur's Pick
We let our four-legged co-worker, Arthur, pick an event this week. It’s no surprise that he chose this one!
This Saturday, dress in your favorite formalwear and head to the Pfister hotel for the highly esteemed Great Catsby – Paws & Claws Gala. Start the night out with a fantastic five-star dinner, prepared by the ever-so-talented Pfister cooking staff. Dinner will be followed by silent and live auctions that will be held throughout the night, including a wine pull, which means there will be no shortage of great items to take home.
The greatest part about this gala surprisingly isn’t the wine, great food, or great atmosphere – it’s the opportunity to hang out with some very cute adoptable puppies or felines, and other animal friends. All proceeds will benefit domestic and wild animals at the Milwaukee, Racine, and Ozaukee Humane Societies. This is an amazing cause to support, and the Pfister is a must-see as far as historic places in Milwaukee go. If you love animals (we sure do!), don’t miss this opportunity to support and help the ones in your community!
We absolutely love the variety of great events that Milwaukee provides for us every week. Here are several more taking place this week that you will want to check out.
